CLAY EARRINGS
Made using polymer clay

I didn't used to wear earrings even though I've had my ears pierced since I was born. The earrings sold in stores weren't appealing or it was too expensive for my budget and cheap jewelry feels like plastic. So I decided to make my own earrings using polymer clay. Creating ones own earrings allows one to appeal to their aesthetic and create their own designs. I personally enjoy simplicity in jewelry, like simple shapes and a limited variety of colors per piece. Here are some of my creations and the process I used.
Polymer clay is a type of hardenable modeling clay. This type of clay is hardened when baked in an oven or toaster oven. The specific brand of polymer clay I used needs to be baked at 300° F for 10 minutes, however I usually let it bake a little longer just in case. To create a pair of earrings, I first had to mold some clay into a ball. I bought metal stencils on Amazon to help with cutting out shapes for my earrings. But my favorite design to create are my very own Rosas' Rods (This design is definitely patented or something O_O stay away fad fashion brands!). The rods are such a sleek yet complementing design. Then I would smush the clay ball and roll it out using any cylindrical tool (When I first started prototyping earrings I rolled out the clay with an exacto knife handle lol). Then I would use a stencil shape and cut out the shape from the rolled out clay. Next I'd stick an earring pin into the clay shape and bake. That's basically it! I created the earring holder in Inkscape and laser cut the design on plywood.
